Are you Mentor Material?
Berks & Bucks FA currently has 48 registered mentors across the counties – 19 with an RG postcode. These 48 are doing a fantastic job, with 75 visits completed so far this season. However, these numbers need to increase significantly to better support newly qualified referees.
Shooting for this goal, B&B FA is running two workshops in January that will allow you to become qualified mentors.
The majority of mentoring requests require availability on Satrurday and Sunday mornings. Through communication and organisation, it’s often easy to plan morning mentoring and afternoon referee/observation appointments to be with the same area, thus allowing you to fulfil multiple roles and responsibilities effectively.
Why become a Berks & Bucks FA Mentor?
- Support new and up-and-coming referees through what can be a daunting experiencing, taking control of your first games, or stepping into adult football. The support of a mentor makes a huge difference
- Rewarded with £15 for every referee that you visit
- Give back to the game and the refereeing community
- Take your first step toward further development roles, such as a Matchday Coach, Referee Developer, or Observer. There is now a specific pathway for these roles, so you can move to operating at a higher level of the games to support referees further up the pyramid
- Mentor as often or as little as you like. Even if you can visit 5 referees across the course of the season, this makes a massive difference!
Who can become a mentor?
To become a referee mentor, you will need to have the following skills and qualifications:
- DBS check
- Safeguarding qualification
- A minimum of Level 7 or 4W referee
- 12 months of refereeing experience
